Danish Salmon

With a lot of the focus being on the amazing health benefits from the omega-3 found in salmon, other just as amazing health benefits may be inadvertently overlooked by the majority of us.

One of the new and fascinating areas of health benefits now being discovered involves the protein and amino acid content of salmon. Recent studies have shown that salmon contains small bioactive protein molecules, which are called bioactive peptides; these bioactive peptides may provide special support for joint cartilage, control inflammation in the digestive tract and assist insulin effectiveness.

A particular bioactive peptide of interest in these studies called calcitonin, a human form of calcitonin is made by the thyroid gland, we know that this is a key hormone for helping to regulate and stabilize the balance of minerals and collagen in the bone surrounding tissue.

As researchers delve further into these studies and learn more about the peptides found in salmon, we will expect to see a lot more potential health benefits related to inflammation, including inflammation of the joints.
